Das Verständnis existenzieller Freiheit bei Karl Jaspers wird im vorliegenden Text in klarer, verständlicher Sprache, abgerundet durch bildliche Darstellungen, nachgezeichnet. Der Autor fühlt sich dem Appell von Jaspers verpflichtet, sich Werke der Philosophiegeschichte in kritischer „Aneignung“ zugänglich zu machen – auch in der gedanklichen Auseinandersetzung mit Karl Jaspers selbst. Diesen reflektierenden Prozess der prüfenden, klärenden und erneuernden Aneignung verfolgt der Text in drei thematischen Ansätzen. Zum einen wird über die bei Jaspers verwen¬deten metaphorischen Wendungen ein grundlegender Zugang zu seinem philosophischen Denken gesucht. Sodann wird das Jasperssche Freiheits¬verständnis um die aktuelle Diskussion um Freiheit und Determinismus erweitert.
